Member At Large, Marketing, Rally Chair
Country of Heritage: Mexican American
Mrs. Jeanette Perez Colby is a communications officer for Arts and Humanities at the University of Rochester. Prior to holding that position she served as as editorial assistant for business news and then manager of the Information News desk at the Democrat and Chronicle. She has written numerous articles on local business leaders, small businesses, and community news. She has served on the planning committee for Hispanic Heritage Family Day at the Memorial Art Gallery; as chair of the Latino Professional Alliance at the University of Rochester; and as secretary for the Rochester Puerto Rican Parade. Colby holds an associate’s degree in communications and media arts from Monroe Community College. She regularly volunteers her time throughout the Rochester community and is a 2008 graduate of the United Way Latino Leadership Development Program.
Mrs. Colby’s mother immigrated to the United States from Mexico in 1965 and her father is a third-generation Mexican American. Mrs. Colby moved to the Rochester area from her native San Antonio, Texas in 1992 and started a family right out of high school. The road has not always been easy, but she has relied on a strong work ethic, knowledge and experience to work “up the ladder.” Married in 1993 and the mother of two young adults, she is currently working on completing a bachelor’s degree in communications at SUNY Empire State College.
