Mrs. Joann Santos is currently the Director and Co-Principal Investigator for S.T.E.M.L. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Licensed Professions) Grant Programs at Monroe Community College (MCC). These programs are funded through the New York State Department of Education, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. The goal of these programs is to recruit and retain underrepresented and underserved populations to successfully enter STEML careers.

Mrs. Santos has been at MCC for 23 years. Her first five years, she was an Advisor working with single parents returning to higher education. Soon after, she went on to Coordinator and later became the Director for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program; writing and co-authoring grants to bring new STEM programs to the College. She currently serves on the Monroe County/Rochester Youth Board and is a Board Trustee for the Rochester Academy Charter School.

Mrs. Santos is completing her doctoral dissertation; phenomenological research that looks at the factors that help community college students successfully transfer to a STEM Baccalaureate program.
