nuestra cultura,
nuestra salud

(our culture, our health)

Honoring Tradition. Empowering Women.

Latinas have long been the keepers of Hispanic and Latin American culture; preserving cherished traditions, nurturing future generations, and often putting the needs of others before their own.

At Latinas Unidas, we recognize that while this dedication is beautiful, it’s equally important for women to prioritize their own health and well-being.

That’s why we created Nuestra Cultura, Nuestra Salud, an annual event that beautifully blends the joy of Three Kings Day (Día de Reyes) with the importance of women’s self-care.

A Day of Celebration and Empowerment

Our morning begins with a warm welcome and light breakfast, or coffee, chocolate and pastries, setting the tone for a joyful, community-centered experience.

While parents enjoy their cafecito, children are invited to participate in a morning full of fun: Zumba, games, and hands-on activities led by caring volunteers and community partners.

As the morning unfolds, the spirit of tradition takes center stage with a bilingual storytelling session. An elder from our community shares the tale of the Three Kings, helping children connect with the significance of this beloved holiday. They hear the magical tale of the night before their arrival, and how children across Latin America eagerly await for the Kings.

The highlight of the event is, of course, the arrival of the Three Kings, who walk through the venue bringing smiles and excitement. Each registered child receives one or more gifts, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and supporters.

We wrap up the event with a delicious Hispanic-style lunch

Community Health Fair

As the children enjoy a morning filled with fun activities, mothers, grandmothers, tías (and yes, even a few dads!) are encouraged to participate in our Community Health Fair, featuring:

  • Resources from local health organizations and service providers
  • Small business vendors focused on wellness and self-care
We also include presentations by local health experts on topics such as women’s health, menopause, mental wellness, and more.

This is a time not only to gather information, but: a chance to connect, reflect, and celebrate together.

A Royal Celebration

Over the years, we’ve been honored to have Rochester leaders and public figures step into the royal robes, including:

  • Former Rochester Mayors Bill Johnson & Robert Duffy
  • WHAM 13’s Glenn Johnson & WOKR’s Richard McCullough
  • Fire Chief Floyd A. Madison
  • State Senator Joseph Robach
  • Commissioner Julio Vazquez
  • Sergeant Carlos Garcia (RPD)
  • And many more...

Their presence underscores the power of community—and the value of showing up for one another.

Why It Matters

Nuestra Cultura, Nuestra Salud is more than an event—it’s a reminder that when women take time to care for themselves, they strengthen their families and uplift the entire community.

By combining cultural celebration with access to health resources, we’re helping Latinas reclaim space for their own well-being, without having to choose between family and self-care.
